TIP: How do Medicare Advantage Plans differ from Prescription Drug Plans?

Medicare Advantage Plans are private health plans such as HMOs, PPOs, or Private Fee-for-service plans that contract with Medicare to provide all Medicare Part A and Part B benefits. In most cases, these plans also offer Medicare prescription drug coverage.

Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs) are private plans that contract with Medicare to provide only prescription drug benefits (and no other benefits). Individuals enrolled in PDPs get all other Medicare-covered benefits through the traditional Medicare program.
